2025 AKF Annual Lecture

THE AHMED KATHRADA FOUNDATION 2025 ANNUAL LECTURE was recently hosted under the theme: “Navigating a Changing World Order: Challenges and Opportunities for South Africa.” The keynote address was delivered by Zane Dangor, Director-General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), who unpacked South Africa’s place in a rapidly shifting global landscape. Responding to the lecture was the renowned scholar Professor Achille Mbembe, head of the Innovation Foundation for Democracy and a board member of the Kathrada Foundation, who offered critical reflections on democracy, justice, and Africa’s global role. The event honoured Ahmed Kathrada’s legacy of ethical leadership, intellectual courage, and commitment to a just and inclusive world. The 2025 Ahmed Kathrada Foundation Anti-Racism Award was presented to Rupert Candy, Garth Wellman, Emmanuel Amaning, and Nicholas Liebmann for their courageous stand against racism and discrimination.
